| SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Our beaches haven't been affected by the oil spill in the gulf. However, that doesn't mean we will not have an issue. Even though the leak is currently contained we are still at risk for a shift and the oil to make contact with our beaches. If you spot any tar balls on the beach please contact PBC Emergency Operations Center: (561) 712-6400 or Department of Environmental Protection Hotline: (800) 320-0519. Also for current information on the oil spill for Palm Beach County see following linkhttp://www.pbcgov.org/publicsafety/emergencymanagement/DeepWaterHorizon/ |
National Public Lands Day is September 25 and is the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. In 2009, 150,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, removed trash and invasive plants, planted trees and restored our water resources. Join the Sand Sifters on Saturday September 4, 2010 to participate early and help clean up our beaches at Oceanfront Park 8:00am to 10:30am for our cleanup. For more cleanup dates click here.
With the oil spill in the gulf so many want to know what they can do to help if our beaches should be affected. Because the oil is considered a bio-hazard material it should not be handled unless otherwise certified or trained to do so. The best recourse is to report any sightings to the county and also to help clean up other litter that the oil can cling too.
It's
sea turtle season till October 31. Please be mindful and do not
disturb marked nests. Also please refrain from digging holes because
this may cause a problem for mother turtles who can fall into these
holes and get injured or killed. Digging holes may result in digging up
a nest which is illegal(to handle eggs unless licensed) and harmful to
the eggs. Please give these little guys a chance and if you have to
make sand castles please level them out before you leave the beach.
Want to learn how to surf? Hula Surf School can teach you. They have been teaching some of our volunteers at certain events. For more information go to Hulasurfschool.com.
The
Heat is on and that means our beaches are being used more and more
litter is being left behind. Please look around your area before
leaving the beach and make sure nothing is left behind & throw away
your own litter. Also remember that the beach is not an ashtray.
Please do not leave cigarette butts on the beach.
| Hurricane season is here. High winds and strong surf create much debris. Be prepared and secure any items that may be whisked away in a strong storm. For storm updates click here |
![]() March 1st is the start of sea turtle nesting season. Please be mindful of the nests on the beach and do not disturb. For more information on Sea Turtles please click here. |
